‘Intersection’ Design Scheme
The Intersection scheme was derived from the idea that the reservoir is a dividing obstacle within Kessler Park. It is currently a void in the landscape, which is forgotten, abandoned, and a breeding ground for unwanted behaviors. To offset the neglect of the reservoir, we implemented a series of connections (or ‘cuts’) that intersect the reservoir and allow views into the interior of the space. In doing so, it was important to create a balance of spaces that function programmatically for the community and the greater Kansas City area. Overall, our main objective is to connect the reservoir and the proposed public spaces back to the local neighborhoods and the region.
