Join us for a special screening of The Road of Resistance, a documentary produced by Nico Giles Media. The film examines the impact of freeway expansion on urban communities, with a specific focus on the historic Beacon Hill neighborhood in Kansas City, MO. Through historical analysis, community testimonies, and urban planning research, The Road of Resistance highlights how car infrastructure has shaped cities, reinforced racial and economic inequalities, and disrupted the social and economic fabric of communities.
The film prioritizes the role of community resistance in challenging harmful urban policies and addresses the need to prioritize neighborhood-first urban design. By addressing the consequences of highway expansion—including displacement, environmental injustice, and divestment—the film provokes curiosity for reimagining urban spaces.
The screening will be followed by an interactive workshop, where participants will re-imagine urban spaces to be people-centered, prioritizing community well-being and improving the quality of life.
This in-person event will take place at Kansas City Design Center. Located at 1111 Main St, suite #115.
