How can a temporary gallery expand outreach?
2014 | 50/50 Gallery Collaboration Project
In 2014, co-curators Hannah Lodwick and Cambria Potter approached the KCDC for help designing a temporary gallery project in the West Bottoms of Kansas City. Titled 50/50, the gallery would be a nod to both the two founding co-curators (both KCAI grads) and to the two shipping containers which would house exhibitions featuring half local and half national artists. Lodwick and Potter had the vision and the means (via a Rocket Grant and a successful Kickstarter campaign) for 50/50 but needed technical assistance with the design of the gallery itself. KCDC students took the reins and helped bring the vision of 50/50 to life. In August 2015, Lodwick and Potter finished construction on 50/50 and opened to a crowd upwards of 200 people. Since its opening, 50/50 has received critical acclaim and the KCDC looks forward to watching the bright future of this important project unfold.
