Our projects have contributed to visioning efforts for over 23 Kansas City metro neighborhoods.
OUR PROJECTS
17 Years, 23 Neighborhoods
Over the past 17 years, we have worked in over 23 neighborhoods, exploring, envisioning, and advocating. Studio projects aim to promote civic design visions that improve the quality of life for all. Student work is showcased in public exhibitions and summarized in a studio booklet published annually.
KCK Housing Revitalization
The KCK Housing Revitalization project integrates affordable, mixed-income housing with sustainable design and workforce development, aiming to empower communities and reimagine the future of Bethany Park.
West Bottoms in Three parts
The transformative vision for the West Bottoms leverages infrastructure to reconnect communities, celebrating the area’s natural, cultural, and economic assets while shaping a more cohesive and vibrant urban identity.
Kessler Park Reservoir
The Kessler Park Water Reservoir project envisions the repurposing of an abandoned reservoir into a vibrant public space, fostering community engagement and supporting the areas growing artists while addressing local needs for security, connectivity, and public amenities.
Over 225 students have participated

Design Students
KCDC is open nationally to all graduate level students studying in the area of urban planning and design.
Design students relocate to Kansas City to take part in a unique educational experience, working in partnership with professional and civic institutions. As an immersive design studio, KCDC engages in real world projects aimed at improving the public realm.
